Mixology Monday: Pretty As A Peony
Peonies are adored throughout the world. There is no rival flower for such extravagant imperfection that really is perfection!
They are dependable, incredibly long-lasting plants and will bloom for generations with little attention. As cut flowers, peonies have no competition. A favorite of brides and wedding/event planners, too, they signify an unattainable beauty….and the holder of such should feel just as beautiful. Alone or in mixed bouquets, they have an elegant natural beauty and a delicate, unforgettable perfume.
Pure elegance befitting a queen… the French have known the Peony for centuries. Me, only a couple of decades. I received my first Peony bouquet as an adult, after a short stay in a hospital about 20 years ago. I’ll never forget seeing my now beloved bloom right in front of me and thought I was seeing things. “How could a flower be so beautiful that it actually doesn’t look real?” Could have been the aftereffects of surgery, but the gentle fragrance of the flower proved to me they were incredibly real.
Peonies became my favorite flower as I matured, as I grew in many different directions, and have a firm footing in my heart now. They signify so much to me, not only representing the woman I am but the different paths I never predicted I’d go in. And the new places I will go. Just from ONE FLOWER. If you see them, treat yourself. You will be hypnotized. Really look at the detail of a Peony and you will notice that each bloom is far from perfect, and their stems can bend in a tulip sort of way, showing me that even perfect and elegant beauty can be original. Just like us.
