Making the Case for: “Adults at the Kid’s Table!”
I remember my parents and us kids ALWAYS being super excited about the Holidays. The sights and sounds! Music playing, tasty snacks, dogs licking the floor. Siblings and cousins being silly and noisy. Adults in the kitchen cooking and drinking.
Pretty much just contained chaos!!
And we all grew up with the concept of a “kid’s table” at the holidays.
As a mom the kid’s table in the kitchen was always a great idea. The kids loved it too!! A perfect way to handle spills and accidents. A place where the kids could have their own style of rambunctious fun!
To me, with my hectic design and travel schedule, it is ALWAYS CRAZY around the holidays. So, this year I’m allowing myself a “little” Christmas.
Big family and over-the-top celebrations are really important. But simplifying our lives has indeed taken center stage post-Covid (dare I say that word). With a deluge of minimalist wardrobes and tone on tone neutrals (if only there came simple schedules to match! Am I right??!).
While I love the recent trends in interior design styling… Who ever heard of Santa wearing a brown and cream-colored suit and presents all in burlap? BLEGH!! Not for CHRISTMAS! Not in THIS house! Haha!!
Not to mention, from my perspective as the wine glass maven, why be boring at Christmas? Why drink out of a clear glass when you can pour wine into a favorite Lolita glass? And most importantly, why can’t the host/hostess have some CHEER while getting ready for Christmas???
Let’s start the “Adults at the Kids’ Table” Christmas Tradition!
Where your kitchen table is all decked out. Inviting, elegant enough for adults to gather in a Festive way and yet casual enough for kids. All this, in your KITCHEN (where everyone congregates anyway!).
I’ve preached color palettes in my blog posts and starting with an object of interest for inspiration. Take “My Fancy Christmas Bow” glass. Explore the details with me below and you’ll have that kitchen table ready in NO TIME!!
Since I was a little girl, bows were my life. They were pretty and colorful and I learned to wrap presents and make pretty bows from a very early age. I carry that bow making into my present Holiday Décor.
The bags of store-bought bows have a memorable connotation but making them on my own is always fun. And I had 2 little girls, so there were bows all year ‘round!
And the good news is that our ever-dependable Amazon site has a plethora of premade bow options as well as ribbon. I always get the double-sided velvet ribbon if I’m making the bows myself. You can also order premade bows for a fraction of the cost of making your own.
I love these bows here, as they are oversized and lovely.
I’m keeping my place settings very simple, too. I love using gold utensils with red and green, it just IS THE THING, and using white plates on red is super festive.
I try to keep my kitchen table simple around the Holidays. Make yours an inviting spot for two or more people to sit and have wine and cheese. Allowing a small group to congregate around you at any time…. it will inspire holiday imbibing and toasts (plenty of wine refills) while you all casually hangout near the food!
I am sure my table will get plenty of use this year, as I have a string of friend and family visits to look forward to. Who knows if I will carry this cuteness throughout the house, but it sure puts me in the Holiday spirit!!!
A bonus is that even when I’m just making coffee, it feels like Christmas!
Have a very Merry “Little” Christmas!!
XOXO,
Lolita
